This is a kind of Chinese god called a Qilin, and this one is a Unicorn type, called a "Dujiao Qilin". (Doo-Djyaow Tschee-Leen)

I really don't feel like explaining the entire thing... And, I know most people don't have a clue about real Chinese mythologies and so on... So, if you wanna know more about them just ask.

*sigh*

Anyway, I did this with graphic markers, and color pencils. I also uploaded it to Epilogue.net.... maybe I'll luck out and have it published there... *fingers crossed* I may also adjust this in the future...

this a very nice kirin. i know that it steps on no living thing and only brings it's wrath down upon the wicked, but what does djyaow mean?

I think Qilin should look more like a combination of a tiger or lion and a Chinese dragon rather than a horse. Although it's translated as a Chinese unicorn by some, it has totally different look from the Western unicorn.

This one looks like a fusion of a Chinese one and a Western one.

Dujiao Shou? Or Qilin? Or Dujiao Qilin? I've seen so many in China. In Beijing i typiclly see the Qilin as the Dujiao Qilin which is 1-horned (Unicorn), and there's so many different looks. But, when I lived in Taiyuan it's mostly Dragon looking, with antlers. But, I've seen many different kinds of Dujiao Shou which are unicorns. :D Like Unicorn Tigers, Unicorn Lions, Unicorn leopards, and so on... So many kinds of dragons too. In Taiyuan they have so many different styles of dargons everywhere. ^.^

I think I usually see Qilin as looking like small fat deer, but very Dragon looking, or like a small plump dog, but very scaley. :D

There's a line in my story about a kirin (or qilin, if you like) that appears to a righteous and honorable ruler 'wreathed in flame'. I think I found the picture to match my mental image. ^_^
