Drawing Comic Book Fists the Cheaters' Way

NOTE: This sheet uses a female hand.

This Cheat is intended to take a step further from the previous Fist Tutorial Sheet.

In this Cheat, the hand is slightly turned in which you can see the index finger knuckle is more prominent and protrudes.

Another of the basics, this fist uses the typical Bubble Structure. This trick is very commonly used throughout comics and continues to be used and reused. There are several variations of this trick, and each artists will have there own take on it.

It can be modified to produce a male hand by drawing the lines of structure with more angular and squared, or more defined knuckles.

The thumb can be modified from a round bubble to a long elips.

Knuckles can be added or omitted just by adding simple lines, of even more lined to show aging and gnarling, or even masculine.

Studying your own hand will be the best help you can get. Studying comic book art is also a must.

NOTE: The great thing about this trick is that you don't always need to create the fist to be exactly perfect. Several comic artists draw hands and fists which aren't correct, but since it's a stylization is doesn't actually matter. Remember, it's stylized. So, you can draw it however you like. And when it comes down to it, most people don't focus upon the hands in a comic book style drawing.... *a-hemmm* They are typically oogling other parts of the figures. That's why it's SUCH A GREAT CHEAT!!!!!
